CHAPTERS: New River Valley
News & Information
The New River Valley Chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association meets at least quarterly and sponsors special programs throughout the year. The meeting place varies, but efforts are made to hold it at a central location in the New River Valley. The Chapter also hosts an annual Judicial Reception in the fall.

Monthly luncheon meetings were held on the second Tuesday of each month.
In October 2012, we hosted our annual Judicial Reception honoring the judges of the 27th Judicial District. Approximately 7 judges and nearly 60 attorneys from the New River Valley attended the event hosted at The Farmhouse Restaurant. The affair was catered with a variety of hors d'oeuvres, pastries, and an open bar. Many of the judges and attorneys who attended had very positive feedback. We are hoping to use the same formula (location, date, etc) for next year's events.
We also participated in golf lessons hosted by the Blacksburg Country Club. Four-five attorneys from our chapter participated in these lessons to improve our game before the Montgomery-Radford Bar Association's annual golf tournament in the spring. Few female attorneys from the area participate in this event. We hope the golf lessons will give female attorneys in the NRV to compete in the golf tournament confidently!
Since July 2012, we have met regularly the second Tuesday of each month over lunch at a restaurant near Montgomery County's courthouse. Some meetings have designated programs. For example, at a fall meeting we discussed the topic "issues that female attorneys are facing in the NRV." Other meetings have been used to plan our events. And, other meetings have been casual so that our members can get to know each other in a more social setting.
We have also established a Facebook page, which has helped bring attendance up for each meeting.
On April 9, 2011, the New River Valley Chapter of VWAA hosted a picnic at Mill Mountain Zoo.
On December 3, 2010, the New River Valley Chapter of VWAA hosted a Holiday Social, which was hosted by The Honorable Harriet D. Dorsey, who opened up her home to welcome the members of the New River Valley Chapter.
