NOVA VWAA Annual Holiday Reception
The Northern Virginia Chapter will host its annual Holiday Reception in-person this year at The Barns of Wolf Trap on December 6, 2022. RSVP by November 29 to attend.
Membership Drive
On November 2, 2022 the Prince William Chapter held its first membership drive. It is intended that a membership drive will be a yearly event.
Judicial Screening Interviews for Fairfax County General District & Juvenile Domestic Court Vacancies
The Virginia Women Attorneys Association, Northern Virginia Chapter’s Judicial Screening Committee will conduct interviews of applicants for anticipated vacancies on the Fairfax County General District Court and Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. Interviews of applicants will be conducted on November 15, 2022. Applications must be returned to Pia J. Miller via email or via the online Judicial Candidates Questionaire by 5:00 p.m. on November 8, 2022. The application can be completed online or requested from Pia via email: pia.miller@fairfaxcounty.gov. IMPORTANT NOTE: If completing the questionnaire online, add Pia's email address in the field for Question 4.
Memorial Service for Betsy Sue Scott
Betsy Sue Scott's Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 2pm in Herndon, VA at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. VWAA members may pay their respects in person or through a tribute book.
Meet'n'Greet Aims to Bridge Gap in Appointment Process
The Diversity Initiatives Committee and Roanoke Chapter host their first Meet'n'Greet for its members and local legislators. The evening was a success and the Diversity Initiatives Committee is excited to expand the program.

Kickoff Meeting
The Hampton Roads Chapter held their first meeting of the new term on August 18, 2022 at Wasserhund Brewery in Chesapeake! At the kickoff, they collected donations of school supplies for Ocean View Elementary School in Norfolk. Each item of school supplies brought, entered you into a raffle.
Nancy Reynolds Sworn in as Director for NCWBA
On August 5, 2022, Nancy Reynolds of the VWAA Roanoke Chapter was sworn in as a Director for the National Conference of Womens Bar Associations Board. The NCWBA is an Association for associations representing 35,000 women attorneys. The VWAA is a proud member and honored to see one of our own leaders serve on their Board.
Ms. Reynolds is a member of VWAA Roanoke Chapter and is serving as the 2022-2023 State Treasurer for the VWAA and a co-Chair of the Diversity Initiative Committee. She was also the recipient of the 2022 VWAA President's Award for her passion and dedication to women's development in law.
2022 Events & Activities
Below is a list of upcoming events in 2022:
A Meeting of the Membership on August 18, 5:00 pm, at the Green Goat.
On September 29 at 5:30 pm we will host a Meet ‘N Greet with our local legislators at Billy’s, 102 Market Street, Roanoke, VA 24011.
We will have the Annual Judicial Reception on December 1 at 6:00 pm. The location is to be determined.
Finally, the Roanoke Chapter is working with Kate Reese to host a local You Be The Judge program for Spring 2023 and is planning a CLE program that will include a trip to a winery.
Updates will be provided as the year unfolds.

VWAA 2022 Annual Meeting
The Virginia Women Attorneys Association had its Annual Meeting on June 17, 2022 in Virginia Beach and virtually. President Rachel Robinson honored past Presidents Janet Cho and Margaret Hardy for their leadership, particularly through the COVID-19 pandemic. We are greatly for their continued service to the Association.

On June 17, 2022, the VWAA hosted a luncheon panel exploring expectations for women’s appearance and attire in the courtroom and the law firm. Our moderator Shemeka C. Hankins brought together Justice Cleo E. Powell, Judge Linda Bryant, Judge Roxie O. Holder, and Judge Tameeka Montgomery Williams to share their observations and personal experiences to touch on issues of implicit bias, discrimination, and the intersection of race, gender, and cultural norms. Investiture of The Honorable Tania M.L. Saylor as Judge of the Fairfax County Circuit Court
The VWAA is honored to announce the Investiture of The Honorable Tania M.L. Saylor as Judge of the Fairfax County Circuit Court. The ceremony of Investiture of Judge Saylor, a member of the VWAA, will take place on Friday, May 6th, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Fairfax County Courthouse, Courtroom 5J. Please join in congratulating Judge Saylor on this momentous occasion.
Judicial Screening Interviews for One Anticipated Fairfax County General District Court Vacancy
The Virginia Women Attorneys Association, Northern Virginia Chapter’s Judicial Screening Committee will conduct interviews of applicants for the anticipated vacancies on the FAIRFAX COUNTY GENERAL DISTRICT COURT. Interviews of applicants for the Fairfax County General District Court vacancy will be conducted on May 10, 2022.

Investiture of The Honorable Melinda L. VanLowe to Take Place on April 1
The VWAA is honored to announce the Investiture of The Honorable Melinda L. VanLowe as Judge of the Fairfax Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. The ceremony of Investiture of Judge VanLowe, a member of the VWAA, will take place next Friday, April 1st, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Fairfax Courthouse, Courtroom 5J. Results of Interviews fo Vacancy on the Supreme Court of Virginia
The VWAA Judicial Screening Committees interviewed seventeen (17) candidates via Zoom or Teams for the vacancy on the Supreme Court of Virginia created by the retirement of the Hon. William C. Mims. An additional eleven (11) candidates who participated in the application process for the Virginia Court of Appeals and/or prior Supreme Court of Virginia vacancies were given the opportunity to maintain their prior VWAA rating and opted to do so. The results of the screening interviews and additional information about each candidate can be found in the letter issued by the Virginia Women Attorneys Association on March 18, 2022.
